The Center for Cancer Support & Education is honored to announce Deb DeMella, RN, RYS, RPP has received the 2008 Survivor Circle Award by the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO). According to the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology president, Patricia Eifel, there were many amazing applicants for this award, so it was extremely difficult to choose only one person. Deb was chosen for her unrelenting efforts to help turn something as difficult as a cancer diagnosis into something so meaningful for others. Ms. Eifel related to Ms. DeMella, “[your] efforts to give back to the Boston community really stood out, which is why my colleagues and I chose you for this prestigious honor.”
Ms. DeMella will be formally honored at the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology’s 50th Annual Meeting on Monday, September 22 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Ms. DeMella began the Advanced Cancer Support Group at this April. “BRAINSTORMERS,” a brain cancer and stroke support group, has been relocated to the Center for Cancer Support & Education in Arlington.
Ms. DeMella recently began the Advanced Cancer Support Group at the Center for Cancer Support & Education and also founded BRAINSTORMERS, a brain cancer and stroke support group which recently relocated to CCSE. BRAINSTORMERS meets monthly at a space generously donated by the Cambridge Savings Bank in Arlington Heights. In addition to facilitating two support groups at the Center, Ms. DeMella is an accomplished energy healer who practices several advanced forms of energy healing. As a Wellness Facilitator at the Center, she offers private Polarity Balancing Sessions, RYSE (Realizing Your Sublime Energy) sessions along with the more traditional Reiki and light Acupressure treatments.
The staff, executive and advisory boards of the Center all offer Deb their heartiest congratulations at receiving this well deserved honor.
